Poonch where he went to school
Gulzarilal Nanda's father, Bulaqi Ram Nanda was a school teacher in Poonch during the years approximately (........), probably in the "middle school" there.
Gulzarilal also attended school there for some years (.....).
Gulzarilal Nanda's mother was Ishwaridevi. Her brother Diwan Gyan Chand Puri was a senior official with the Raja of Poonch. Gulzarilal and perhaps Bulaqi Ram also lived in the house of Diwan Gyan Chand Puri (khatri). Photos of his house with pink walls are included below. All the photos are from my visit to Poonch in 2008. My notes from 2008 state the following:
"This photo was given to me by the present resident of the house and was taken prior to the earthquake in ~2006 which damaged a lot of buildings and monuments in Poonch. The outside wall of the house as in the photo was damaged and does not now look like in the photo. The inside rooms also had to be renovated substantially.Inside the house the family has done it up quite simply but pleasingly. There is a small angan -where children play, surrounded by 3 or 4 rooms. One more huge room was destroyed and has not been reconstructed yet. There is a first floor also with only a sort of terrace there".
Mr. K.D. Maini an historian, author and journalist was of great help to me during my visit and graciously invited me to their house for a meal where I met his family too.
I have with me a book (.......) on the history of Poonch written by Mr. K.D. Maini
There was still a memory of Gulzarilal Nanda and even of Bulaqi Ram Nanda ( by a Diwan of another Khatri family) during my visit to Poonch
